Глава разработчиков и продюсер массовой онлайновой ролевой игры Final Fantasy XIV Наоки Ёсида прокомментировал конкуренцию с World of Warcraft и World of Warcraft Classic от Blizzard.

По словам Наоки Ёсида, World of Warcraft Classic не является конкурентом Final Fantasy XIV. Зато конкурентом Final Fantasy XIV является нынешний World of Warcraft, поскольку его структура больше похожа на Final Fantasy XIV.
 
Также Ёсида прокомментировал тот факт, что Final Fantasy XIV является одной из  немногих массовых онлайновых игр, которая по сей день остаётся популярной. Ёсида полагает, что значение имеют несколько моментов: выпускать контент как можно скорее, предоставлять игрокам немало качественного контента и делать это на регулярной основе.
