Раньше ходили слухи о том, что Square Enix переименовали Final Fantasy Versus XIII в Final Fantasy XV.

Теперь же появилось больше слухов, исходя из которых, можно понять, что игра находится в разработке уже около четырех лет. Только начиная с января 2010 года (почти одновременно с релизом Final Fantasy XIII), над игрой стали активно работать.

По всей видимости, официальный анонс игры состоится на торжественном праздновании 25 летия серии, которое пройдет на Tokyo Game Show в сентябре.
