Weekend Debate: Podium-worthy Sporting Moments

What? It’s the weekend already? Where does the time go? Ah yes, I know – it goes on sitting in traffic jams and queuing to get onto London underground trains, fighting ones way through the 20 million-odd out-of-towners who’ve descended on our nation’s capital this week ahead of a certain imminent sporting event.

Seeing as it all finally kicks off this evening, it seems like the perfect moment to reflect on memorable sports-related video games of yore. So, this week’s debate topic:

What’s your favourite sports-related gaming memory?

It needn’t be a full release – feel free to pick a particular mini-game, or even a side-mission from a non-sports related game that might be relevant.

I’ll confess that sports games aren’t really my scene. I went cold turkey following a health-threatening International Superstar Soccer addiction back in my student days and haven’t looked back. So my pick to get the ball rolling stretches the parameters of the debate a little – playing ‘zombie golf’ in Dead Rising 2. That counts, right?

Anyway, your suggestions below, if you please!

As promised, I’ve got a prize this week for the best comments received – there are 10 PSN vouchers for lunatic PSN romp Eat Them! up for grabs. Don’t remember it? It debuted back in late 2010 and lets you step into the shoes of an enormous beast and smash up a city. Good times.
