Journey Collector’s Edition launches on Blu-ray tomorrow

For those of you who still haven’t experienced Journey, or for those of you that have and want more, I’m excited to say I have good news for you. As we mentioned last month, the Journey Collector’s Edition Blu-ray disc will be available to purchase tomorrow.

We’ve been talking quite a bit with developer thatgamecompany leading up to this launch and Aaron Gromesh, the studio’s Community Manager wanted to chime in:

“We’re excited that the Journey Collector’s Edition will be coming out on disc across the SCEE region. Through the huge support of fans of Journey and some awesome people at Santa Monica Studio and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, this has become a reality.

“This collection contains everything we did for over half a decade and has some great insights and views of the studio throughout the three PSN games and three GameJam games. We hope that you’ll treasure this collection, as it’s a first of its kind for downloadable games on the PS3.”

The Journey Collector’s Edition will include all three of thatgamecompany’s titles: Journey, Flower and flOw. All three of these games were revolutionary in their simple but innovative design, and inspired gamers all over the world. In addition, it will also include the following extras:

• 30-minute behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of Journey
• Creator Commentary play-through of all three games
• Three exclusive mini-games from thatgamecompany
• Concept art and screenshot galleries for all three games
• Original soundtracks for all three games
• PS3 dynamic themes and wallpapers
• Official game trailers and developer diary videos
• Exclusive Avatars to the physical disc

I think one of the most interesting things here are the developer play-throughs of the games. It allows us to see the creative process that goes on and all the hard work that is poured into these games.

The mini-games are also a very fun exclusive to the Collector’s Edition. These are games produced from thatgamecompany’s 24 hour Game Jam – a day-long session where a game gets put together from the ground up. These are some fantastic multiplayer experiments here that really highlight the lighter side of the studio.
